Benefits Of Membership
The Guernsey Model Engineering Society has within its membership, model engineers with a wide range of interests and experience. Some are professional engineers, but the majority are just enthusiasts who relish a hobby where they can exercise their creativity to the full. Building models is often very challenging, and being able to talk over difficulties with others who have encountered similar problems before is a valuable benefit.
Several members have extensive workshops and are only too happy to assist with a difficult machining problem.
Many items have specialised tooling have been made or acquired by members over the years, and use of these can make a seemingly “impossible” task much easier. So can access to larger, more powerful machines than an individual may possess in their own workshop.
Members have access to various railway test tracks owned by Society members. Currently gauges ‘O’, ‘1’, 3.5″ and 5″ are available.

The Society has a portable miniature railway which it takes to fetes and shows giving rides to the public, thus benefiting various charities and worthy causes. It uses various locomotives, both steam and battery electric powered.
The Society owns specialised test equipment which enables it to inspect and certify member’s model boilers for insurance purposes. The Society is a member of the Federation of Model Engineering Societies. Through the Federation insurance scheme, Society members automatically benefit from Public Liability cover in respect of their own private modelling activities while they remain members of the Guernsey Model Engineering Society.
Membership of the Guernsey Model Engineering Society costs only £15 per annum. Meetings and practical demonstrations are held throughout the year, and 6 newsletters are produced and distributed to members.
