About Us
The Guernsey Model Engineering Society was founded in 1987 to provide a means by which individuals who were interested in one of the many disciplines of model engineering could obtain mutual support in pursuit of their hobby.
Members are engaged in building and operating perfect working miniatures of traction engines, steam waggons, stationary engines, boats, railway locomotives in gauges from ‘O’ to 5″ gauge, model helicopters and much else.
Developing workshop tools, techniques and skills are another important facet of the hobby. The latest computer based techniques, CAD and even 3D printing, are used to produce the complex parts necessary for some of the models. Some members prefer instead to build from one of the large range of already machined kits now available
The Society has a portable miniature railway which it takes to fetes and shows to give rides to the public.

The Society is affiliated to the Federation of Model Engineering Societies which enables it to test and certify steam boilers owned by its members. Our members automatically benefit from an extension to the Society’s public liability insurance which covers them even when engaged in their own modelling activities separate to those of the Society.
